Summary

XingXing needed users to open the app even when they weren't riding. I designed a gamified feature that turned walking into a daily habit, proposing and building a motion design system that guided user behavior and contributed to $15M Series B funding.

Context

XingXing, a leading shared mobility platform, wanted to increase Daily Active Users beyond ride moments. The solution was XingXing Walking, a reward-based pedometer feature built inside the existing app.

The Challenge

Transform user perception from "an app I only open to ride" to "a fun daily habit," through visual experience engaging enough to motivate repeated daily interaction.

My Approach

Color was anchored in XingXing's brand green, extended with sky blue to create an eco-friendly mood. For the character, I pushed for 2D over 3D — flat graphics feel more approachable to everyday users. The Earth character was designed with motion in mind from the start, responding to left and right scroll to create the illusion of movement. The watering screen was originally static. I proposed a Lottie animation where water droplets splash and a speech bubble moves above, turning a passive screen into a behavioral nudge.

Solution

• Designed a Tree Growing interface where daily check-ins visualize progress, turning routine actions into rewarding moments. • Created a friendly Earth character for the referral system, making inviting friends feel like a playful mission rather than a task. • Unified both features with a bold, minimal color system to ensure visual consistency across the experience. • Proposed and implemented Lottie-based motion, a first for the team, rapidly upskilling myself to produce animations that directly guided user behavior and turned passive app visits into active daily habits.

Impact

• Boosted daily active engagement by implementing motion-driven design as a core business lever, moving beyond pure aesthetics. • Contributed to securing $15M Series B funding by proving the measurable impact of high-fidelity design on user growth and retention. • End-to-end design ownership from initial motion-driven strategy to production-ready high-fidelity UI delivery.
